Accessibility Statement

This is the accessibility statement for the jasoncowlam site. If you have any questions, comments or have any problems regarding accessibility please email me at jasoncowlam@gmail.com or please use the form on this sites contact page.

This site is built to be as accessible as possible and is built using CSS and HTML only. There is a small amount of Javascript but this is used unobtrusively and should not bother uses who don't use it . The only exception to this is the flash photo gallery. Time permiting I will make this gallery more acessible as well. The accessiblity features of this site are listed below.

Text Only Stylesheet and Increasing Font Size

This option allows the user to use a high contrast text only stylesheet, this will make the text more reasy to view if you have difficultly seeing and also removes all background colors and images. This stylesheet can easily be changed using the link in the top right hand corner of every page.

Change to high contrast stylesheet

You can change the font size of the page text using the links found in the top right hand corner of the every page.

Access keys

Most browsers allow the user to jump to specific links by typing keys defined on the web site. Windows users can access this feature by pressing ALT + an access key; Macintosh users press CTRL + an access key. The following access keys are available throughout this site:. Please note that if you are the page already the access key for that page will not work.

All pages have a skip to main content as the first element on the page, this provides a link to allow the reader to skip the navigation and headers and get to the main body content. This can be accessed by using CTRL + 7

Standards compliance

All pages comply with priority 1 guidelines of the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. The site uses well structured semantic mark up for example headers are contained with heading tags, tabular data within tables and text within paragraph tags. The only non compliant non-accessible part of the site is the flash photograph viewer but I am researching ways to increase this items accessiblility.

Navigation aids

All tables have table header cells, to allow screen readers to render them correctly. Table also have a summary.

Links

All links are text based and should be easy to understand from the context that they are found in. Others wise if links are hard to understand out of context then they will have a link title. No links will open up in a new window without warning

Visual Design

The site is build using cascading style sheets and all fonts and layouts are not fixed size and can easily be expanded.
