This site is simple in its design and navigation but I have been to sites before and not understood the way to navigate or use the site.
All links are in bold and when you place the mouse on them they become underlined.
When you use a link on this site that link will alter its state slightly to show that you have already been to this part of the site. Why? Because it is recommended on Jakob Neilsens site as a good design feature.
On this site all visited links will have a line through the link text effect. Visited links in the right hand area of the site also have the a tick after the link (users of IE will not see this effect)
I've tested this site in most major browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Netscape, it should render in the latest versions of these fine and also in earlier versions of Internet Explorer. I have used a fixed size layout rather than a more fluid one, this is something I might change in the future, I've not made up my mind on exactly what is best, though I feel that the fluid version is probably better, though only if the size of the browser window is taken as an important factor.
In the future I hope to add a glossary page detailing technical terms, a large section on Japan which will hopefully be database driven and I might add a blog if I can find time to write the code
